Account Deletion Policy & Instructions
We respect your privacy and your right to control your data. This document explains how to permanently delete your UptimeMonitor account and what happens to your data.
Important Notice
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. However, your account will not be deleted immediately:
Grace Period Policy
Paid Accounts: Deletion occurs at the end of your current billing cycle (no new charges will be made)
Free/Trial Accounts: Deletion occurs after a 7-day grace period
Your monitors will continue running during the grace period
You can cancel the deletion at any time before the scheduled date
What Will Be Deleted
Once the deletion date is reached, the following will be permanently removed:
All your monitors and monitoring data will be permanently deleted
All incident history and reports will be removed
All notification settings and integrations will be disconnected
Your subscription will be cancelled
All team members associated with your organization will lose access
This action cannot be reversed or recovered
How to Delete Your Account
Log In to Your Account
Sign in to your UptimeMonitor account using your credentials or SSO provider (Google, GitHub, etc.).
Open Account Dashboard
Click on your profile icon in the top right corner of the dashboard to open the Account Dashboard modal.
Navigate to Security Settings
In the Account Dashboard, ensure you're on the Personal tab, then click on Security in the left sidebar.
Locate the Danger Zone
Scroll to the bottom of the Security page to find the Danger Zone section.
Click "Delete My Account"
Click the red "Delete My Account" button to begin the deletion process.
Confirm Deletion
A confirmation modal will appear. To proceed, you must:
Review the scheduled deletion date (based on your account type)
Type your email address exactly as it appears in the system
Check the box confirming you understand the action is permanent
For Organization Accounts: If your organization has multiple members, you must also check an additional confirmation acknowledging that all team members will lose access
Click the final "Schedule Deletion for [DATE]" button
Deletion Scheduled
Your account deletion will be scheduled. You will:
Receive a confirmation email with the scheduled deletion date
See a banner in your dashboard with a countdown
Continue to have access to your monitors until the deletion date
Be able to cancel the deletion at any time before the scheduled date
What Data Gets Deleted
When your scheduled deletion date is reached, the following data is permanently removed within 30 days:
- Personal Information: Your name, email address, and profile data
- Monitoring Data: All monitors, uptime statistics, and performance metrics
- Incident Records: Complete incident history and reports
- Billing Information: Payment methods and subscription history
- Organization Data: If you're the owner, all organization members and settings
Data Retention & Compliance
GDPR Compliance
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we ensure your right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"). Your personal data is deleted within 30 days of the scheduled deletion date, except where we have a legal obligation to retain certain information for tax, legal, or regulatory purposes.
Legal Retention
We may retain anonymized transaction records and invoices for up to 7 years as required by financial regulations. This data cannot be linked back to your identity.
Backup Systems
While your data is deleted from active systems on the scheduled deletion date, it may persist in encrypted backup systems for up to 90 days as part of our disaster recovery procedures. These backups are automatically purged on a rolling basis.
Grace Period & Cancellation
During the Grace Period
While your account is scheduled for deletion:
You CAN:
Your monitors will continue to run
You will continue to receive notifications
You can access all your historical data
You can export your data
You CANNOT:
You cannot add new monitors
No new billing charges will be made (for paid accounts)
How to Cancel Deletion
If you change your mind before the scheduled deletion date:
Log in to your account
You will see a prominent banner with a countdown
Click the "Cancel Deletion" button
Your account will be restored to normal operation
For paid accounts, billing will resume on the next cycle
Email Reminders
You will receive email reminders at:
Day 7 (or when deletion is scheduled)
Day 3 before deletion
Day 1 (final reminder)
Day 0 (account deleted confirmation)
Organization Accounts
Additional Approval Required
If your organization has multiple team members, deleting your account will:
Remove access for all team members
Delete all organization data and settings
Cancel the organization subscription
Require an additional confirmation checkbox
Recommendation
For organization accounts with multiple members, we recommend:
Exporting all critical data before deletion
Notifying all team members of the pending deletion
Transferring ownership if you want the organization to continue
Reviewing all integrations that will be disconnected
Common Questions
Q: Can I recover my account after deletion?
A: No, deletion is permanent. However, during the grace period, you can cancel the deletion at any time.
Q: Will I receive a refund for unused time?
A: No, paid accounts continue service until the end of the current billing cycle with no additional charges.
Q: What happens to my team members?
A: All team members will lose access on the scheduled deletion date. They will receive notification emails.
Q: Can I export my data before deletion?
A: Yes, we recommend exporting all data during the grace period. Data export features are available in the dashboard.
Q: Is immediate deletion available?
A: No, all accounts go through a grace period to prevent accidental deletions.
